JULY 1-31, 2010 THE PIANO FACTORY GALLERY is pleased to present “THE GENE POOL” – a group show featuring the work of the internationally known artist, Paul Goodnight, and up and coming artists: Sean Flood, Destiny Palmer, and Percy Fortini-Wright. The seamless movement between quick, assured, bold gesture and the cohesion of finely wrought imagery are traits on display in the works of these four artists. Evident is the inheritance of disciplined training in paintings that capture quiet moments of rest before the explosion of song, or silence in hidden spaces temporarily free of any movement. Narratives are drawn confidently with paint. We see the slow, relentless under-beat of human nature being painstakingly etched out, while simultaneously feeling the raw emotion of restless, unpredictable, even risky surges of energy. “THE GENE POOL” celebrates self-expression through mark-making as the gene much as it does the wonderment of individuality born out of the complex interconnected generational matrix of DNA sequencing. Added to the mix are exquisite woodcarvings of Robert Flood and show-stopping original hats by Allyn Fortini- Wright, both parents of artists in the show. “THE GENE POOL” invites viewers to engage with the cross-talk between the artworks, across the generations, and within the symphony of life’s ever-evolving formation.
The show will run from July 1st – July 31st, 2010 at the Piano Factory Gallery, located at 791 Tremont St., Boston, MA. There will be a special preview on Wednesday, July 7th from 6-9PM, and the Opening Reception with music and light refreshments will be held on Sunday, July 11th, from 2 to 8PM.
